Hair Trend Report: Summer 2015

The warm weather is finally here and that means long beach days and hot summer nights. The hair of the season is playful, messy, and sexy. The tresses are air-dried and it’s all about keeping cool. Celebrity hair stylist Richard Collins, responsible for styling the locks of some of the most well known beach babes in Hollywood, gives us three of his favorite looks for beating the heat this summer.

A long-standing trend season after season is the ponytail; a look Collins says isn’t going anywhere. And this season’s direction is clear: the low ponytail is king. Whether worn straight or wavy, with a center or side part, the ponytail is always a chic option. Start by washing and conditioning your hair with Schwarzkopf essence Ultime Diamond Color and Radiance Shampoo and Conditioner, which is fortified with special UV filters. Collins says sun protection is the key to keeping your hair healthy during summer months. Instead of using your blow dryer, towel dry your hair to get most of the moisture out. Then spritz with Schwarzkopf styliste Ultime Elastin Curls and Moisture Soft Toussle Spray and pull your hair back by hand to get a naturally textured look. Wear it tied loosely at the nape of your neck with a colored elastic for a look that is perfectly casual and cool.

Instead of throwing your hair into a bun when the weather gets steamy, Collins suggests trying a trendy top knot. This style is great for second day hair, as it not only hides the fact that hair hasn’t been washed that day, but will also hold the style better. Placement is the key to creating a perfect top knot. Collins says it should sit flat on top of the head, and not too far back. Start by pulling all of your hair upward, making sure the back is tight and smooth. Secure with a small elastic and backcomb the ponytail to create volume. Once you're done, twist your hair into a circular shape around the elastic. Secure your top knot in place with hair pins. Finally, set your look with Schwarzkopf styliste Ultime Biotin+ Volume and Texture H20 Free Hairspray.

Collins says this season is seeing a huge trend toward half up hairstyles. This look combines the polished vibe of an up-do and the sexy look of hair that’s down and loose, making it a go-to for laid-back summer events. Start by spritzing Schwarzkopf styliste Ultime Elastin Curls and Moisture Soft Toussle spray on dry hair for traction and just enough fly-away wisps to make your hair feel slept-in. Grab the front section of your hair with your hands and pin it back in place loosely using hair pins. Don’t make it too perfect - it should look undone and messy. Run your fingers through the part of your hair that’s down to break up any knots. Set your half up style with Schwarzkopf styliste Ultime Crystal Shine and Hold Laminating Shine Hold Hairspray.
