It’s Women’s History Month and here at Schwarzkopf, we’re taking a look at three of the most iconic hairstyles of all time. We asked celebrity hair stylist Richard Collins to break down each style, step by step. Below he tells us how to recreate each iconic look, using your favorite Schwarzkopf products.
The first is the Feathered Flip, channeling a certain “angel” from the 70’s. Collins says this look is all about feathered curls and a bouncy blowout. Start by applying Schwarzkopf Biotin Volume and Texture Superb Volume Mousse from roots to ends and blow dry hair upside down until completely dry. Drying your hair this way gives you big hair, which is an important element to this style. Now moving section by section, dampen the last three inches of your hair, spritz Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Heat Protection Shine Spray, and wrap each piece around a round boars head bristle brush, blow drying again until each new curl is completely dry and set. Finish with Schwarzkopf Biotin Volume and Vitality H2O Free Hairspray.
Next is the Power Bob, worn for decades by one of fashion’s most infamous magazine editors. This, Collins says, is one of the most classic looks, and always in style. The most important part of this style is the cut, so make sure to ask your stylist for a classic bob. Blow dry with a round boar bristle brush. Use Schwarzkopf Satin Frizz and Control Heat Protection Straightening Cream to smooth down your hair and protect against the flat iron, which is the next step. Section your hair off, working back to front, and flat ironing with a slight curve forward. Really use the flat iron to pull the hair down. Work your way around your head using half inch sections, continuing to flat iron, pulling the hair and curving it under. Follow through with a comb to make sure it lays straight and flat, flat ironing and combing all over until you get to the front of the head. Repeat on the other side, and finish by smoothing your hair into place with Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Transparent Polishing Pomade.
Finally, we have Sexy Bedroom Hair, a la the French bombshell from the 60’s. This look is extremely easy to achieve, and Collins says it works with all hair lengths. Start by applying Schwarzkopf Biotin Volume and Texture Superb Volume Mousse to wet hair and blow dry hair upside down. Then separate your bangs, or the front section of your hair from the rest, and bow-dry straight down, separating it into a middle part. Next, backcomb the back of your hair. This is done by sectioning your hair into manageable portions and, using a comb, gently but firmly pushing the hair back towards the scalp right down to the root in one fluid motion. Finish by taking some hair from above your ears and pinning it back, and set with Schwarzkopf Biotin Volume and Vitality H2O Free Hairspray.
