Hair Inspiration: Taking a Cue from New York Fashion Week 2015

New York Fashion Week is coming and it’s time to find out what's on trend this season for the fashion industry. From backstage to the runway, fashion week is also a great source of beauty inspiration. Celeb hairstylist Richard Collins, who styles some of the most recognizable faces walking the runway, believes that your hair is your greatest accessory and says you should take a cue from the runways this season and change up your ‘do according to your outfit. Three easy, and ever-popular ways to do this are by changing the direction of your part, creating a messy textured ponytail and sleeking it up with a glam low ponytail.

Changing your part can instantly shift your look and have a major impact. Simple and understated, Richard says parted hair is a great style for the office. The key to switching up your natural part is to start with a product designed for strong hold at the root area when the hair is wet to hold the new direction of hair. Richard recommends Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine & Hold Transparent Polishing Cream. After applying, use medium tension and blow dry the root area with a fine-toothed comb in the new direction you want your hair to part. The polish you applied to this area will help hold your hair in place as you style. Finish the rest of the hairstyle as desired.

A messy textured ponytail creates a sexy, cool, and confident vibe. Richard recommends it for a night out on the town. Start with dry, preferably day old hair (dirty hair has more texture and also means a better grip for the ponytail holder). Brush out your hair and apply a texturing product. Richard’s favorite is Schwarzkopf’s Biotin Magic Volume Powder. Massage the powder into your roots. Next tease your hair at the crown, brushing over the teased hair so it looks big and polished. Gather all your hair together on top of your head. Don't flip your head over as you might naturally do. This will almost always leave you with an un-centered ponytail. Brush hair into your hand with a paddle brush and secure the ponytail with elastic. Then gently pull a few pieces of hair down and out of place for a perfectly messy look. Finish up by spraying all over with Schwarzkopf Volume & Texture H2O Free Hairspray to hold the style all day.

Nothing says glam like an ultra sleek low ponytail, making this Richard’s go-to look for a formal affair. Start by blow-drying your hair straight and combing in a center part with a rattail comb. Rub a few drops of Schwarzkopf Omega Repair & Moisturize Daily Oil Elixir on the top and sides of your hair, and using a paddle brush, slick hair into a low, tight ponytail. Wrap a small piece of hair around the elastic to hide it and stick in a few pins to hold it in place. Spray Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Laminating Shine Hair Spray all over and run a comb over entire head to smooth everything out. Finish by running a flatiron over the tail to make it poker-straight and glossy.

With New York Fashion Week right around the corner, and new styles to be inspired by coming down every runway, remember that there’s a stand-out hair style to compliment every look. Why rock the same hair with every outfit? Change it up like you do your shoes and always have your favorite Schwarzkopf products on hand.
