Streaked Hair is the New Trend

Uniformity is definitely not the trend. Streaks are back in style and right now, they add a lot of interest to the hair styles of celebrities. We show you how the stars wear streaked hair and fill you in on the ways to use highlights, lowlights and the new painting techniques.

A recent survey done by an electrical manufacturer showed that about 70 percent of all women use hair coloring products regularly. Many of these women love to streak their hair because it is such a simple way to perk up and improve their own hair color. The 'just back from the beach' look is especially popular. The look mimics the delightful effects of ample sun shine on hair. Today’s streaks are no longer uniformly colored as they used to be in years past. Streaks in various shades look a lot more natural. Hair color manufacturers adapted to the new trend and developed coloring agents, which produce a variety of harmoniously balanced shades. This makes streaking your hair at home easy and fast. Our mini course in hair streaking is meant to help you find the right streaking technique for your hair.

Streaks Setting Highlights

Highlights are usually to various degrees bleached strands of hair. Highlights look good in hair of any color and have the advantage of not exposing the entire hair to bleach. Right now, celebrities like to look as if they had just returned from a beach vacation. Highlights in their hair tend to suggest that without looking artificial. To create this effect they paint the highlights into their hair using a brush. This method avoids abrupt color changes and therefore produces a natural look.

Streaks Setting Lowlights

Lowlights are the opposite of highlights. Darker strands of hair add depth and glow to hair. Originally, lowlights were developed for graying hair. The darker color was painted onto the gray strands of hair to naturally blend them into the rest of the still naturally pigmented hair. In the process, hair stylists recognised that they also created an optical illusion. The darker strands appeared to add volume to the hair. This is of course a bonus for everyone with thin or fine hair.

The New Trend in Streaks Are Red Lights

Dark-haired women know the problem. Putting glowing red streaks into dark hair requires bleaching the strands before coloring them red. Without bleaching the red streaks are barely visible. Today’s red lights are the solution for this problem, which slightly bleach the hair strands while covering them with a deep red color at the same time. Red lights are faster to achieve while reliably producing beautifully colored streaks.

Two or Three-Colored Tone-in-Tone Streaks

The summer sun naturally lightens the covering hair the most. These strands of hair glow in various lighter shades. Multi-shaded tone-in-tone streaks imitate this effect. Patches of hair are coated with different but harmoniously matching pigments. This leads to very naturally looking results and is very attractive.

Streaks: What color works best with ...

... blonde hair?
Blonde hair seems to play up even the slightest coloring mistakes. Streaks in blonde hair must therefore look particularly natural. Especially attractive are streaks, which are a trace lighter than the natural blonde color. This gives hair the appearance of being naturally sun-bleached. Naturally blonde people may choose platinum blonde color streaks or alternatively, choose warm honey-blonde shades for the streaks to create more depth

... brown hair?
Red streaks add interesting shades to brown hair. If your hair is dark brown you should however slightly bleach the streaks before coloring them red. Otherwise, the red streaks tend to disappear in the dark brown hair. On a practical note, if you still wear last summer's dip dye look with blonde hair ends you can simply apply the red color to the light ends of your hair

... red hair?
Light red hair displays more depth if you color some streaks in gold or copper tones. Cherry-red streaks bring out the beauty of darker red hair. It is important to opt for warm colors for streaks in red hair. The warm tones bring out the beauty of the complexion

... black hair?
The darkest of all hair colors is now perked up with blue or purple streaks. Cool maritime colors are the trend for black or very dark hair. Before the hair can be streaked it must however be bleached. Otherwise, coloring the streaks would hardly be noticed. If you don't like blue streaks in your black hair you could also opt for purple tones. In the current trend, it is important that the blue value dominates if you want your dark hair color to appear deeper
