2015 Spring Runway Report: Hair Edition

From curly and romantic to polished and sophisticated, when it comes to fashion, your hair should always compliment your clothes. Celebrity hair stylist Richard Collins, who styles some of the most famous manes in Hollywood, gives us his take on what styles best compliment the looks straight from the spring 2015 runways.

Fashion Vs. Hair

Collins says the sheer, lace fabrics and pastel, floral prints of the 70’s happening in fashion right now calls for a, romantic vibe with care-free, cascading waves. To achieve this look, start by applying Schwarzkopf Biotin + Volume and Texture Superb Volume Mousse at the roots of your wet hair, and then drag it down to the middle of your hair. Stay away from your ends for now. Rough dry your hair with your fingers about 75% of the way and then do one classic braid on each side of your head. Now pull at the braids, making them messy. Collins says this is the best trick for breaking up the braid pattern and loosening your waves up. Next, use a medium heat and blow dry for about five to seven minutes per side. Unravel the braids gently and make sure your hair is completely dry. Finish by adding Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Transparent Polishing Pomade to your ends.

Wet hair officially became a look on the runways this season, complimenting resort wear inspired by Mediterranean colors and sun-soaked destinations. From lightly gelled, to fresh out of the water, Collins says a slicked down ‘do or a shiny chignon translates just as well into the real world as they do on the runway. Instead of starting with soaking-wet strands, he recommends drying your hair completely, then combing Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Transparent Polishing Pomade through. Keep a little volume on top so the hair doesn’t look flat. The styling part here is up to you. You can part it down the middle, comb it back, or pull it up in a tight bun with your fingers to impart a slicked-back appearance. Finish by setting your look with Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine and Hold Laminating Shine Hair Spray.

American classic designs that use fabrics like linen and denim call for a simple braid, and the one seen all over the runways for spring was the rope twist. Collins says this is a classic style that looks more complicated than it really is. Start by spraying dry hair with Schwarzkopf Biotin + Volume and Texture Luxe Fresh Up Dry Shampoo for added texture. Gather all your hair into a low ponytail and split it in two equal sections, twisting both sections to the left. Wrap the left section over the right to form the rope twist. Swap hands as you wrap the section so that you keep tension in the braid. Keep twisting the sections to the left and wrapping them to the right until you reach the end of your ponytail. Secure the end with an elastic band. You can leave your braid as is or twist it around into a bun or chignon. Either way, make sure to finish with Schwarzkopf Biotin + Volume and Texture H20 Free Hairspray.
